SPIN-OFF

A house passed by the camera in a pan shot, but never entered. What's behind its facade? A storage room in the back of the library, mentioned in the dialogue but never explored. What's kept in there? A photograph pinned to the wall in the background of a transition scene. Whose story is that?

This primer invites students to create a spin-off of a background aspect. Using last year's superFUTURES films as the launchpad, they will study and deconstruct to find and present a hidden understory.

Materialised as a 1:1 set, a miniature model, or a collection of props that bring a subplot into the limelight, where textures, atmosphere, and materiality don't just decorate a story but shape a new one.
