understory
How might socio-spatial (dis)obedience enable alternative ways of living?
Borrowing its name from forest ecology, understory asks what grows beneath dominant systems.
In ecological terms the forest understory is the layer of life that exists beneath the main forest canopy but above the forest floor. Understory describes a spatial condition in which marginal, interdependent and often invisible forms of life and organisation become sites of knowledge, resistance and collective survival.
understory invites a look beneath the visible structures of everyday life, exploring the hidden networks, relationships and forms of knowledge that sustain people, communities and ecologies.
understory will run from Oct 2026 through June 2027.
More details coming soon.
